Raw registry edit - hives needed

RawReg is a program that can be used to edit NT registry hives without using Win32 API.

The task itself is not very easy because the hive format is not properly documented by MS and therefore a lot of things may differ from one hive to another.

The main goal is to overcome the hive handling limitations imposed by Windows Vista UAC (User Account Control) that doesn't allow to load hives without full administrator permissions. This forces winbuilder to only work well to build a boot disk when the user is administrator.

This is where I need you help.

If you're interested, please email me your registry hives (setupreg.hiv, bcd, software, etc) so that I can test and see how they work.

No matter how big or small your hives are, please do send them anyways.

My mail box is mail@nunobrito.eu

Thank you!!

Vista and VistaPE together?

Rudebox has asked if it was possible to merge a Windows Vista Install DVD along with a VistaPE boot disks.

The quick answer would be yes in theory but we lack the tests in reality that prove that this approach is possible.

For XP, something similar has already been done with the UXP project that binded together a big sized XP install with a LiveXP environment, but how about Vista?

I like Ubuntu mostly because we do get to try out the OS before installing it on disk and with Vista this could be used to either run a few administration tools to prepare the machine or rescue data before installing everything again.

If this seems a good idea to move forward don't forget to write your opinion about this matter: http://www.boot-land.net/forums/?showtopic=5249
